La resonancia magnética es una técnica implantada y muy difundida a nivel mundial,ya que ha supuesto un gran cambio en los estudios de imagen del cuerpo humano. Ofrece este método de imagen un amplio abanico de beneficios, el más importante es el de carecer de los riesgos que entrañan las radiaciones ionizantes, el paciente no necesita estar hospitalizado ni quedarse en él tras realizarse la prueba; presenta un excelente contraste entre los tejidos blandos, incluso mayor que las de la TAC (tomografía axial computarizada),el contraste es totalmente regulable (en la actualidad se han creado diferentes escalas de grises expresivas) que ayudan a valorar las propiedades intrínsecas de los tejidos; lo cual se consigue mediante diferentes secuencias de pulsos, lo que va a asegurar un completo diagnóstico.
